A work without equal in musical writing, Steve Reich’s Drumming unfurls its powerful score for percussion from a single obsessive rhythm which grows and is enriched with multiple textures. The same principle underlies the enthralling choreography of the same name created by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in 1998: a single dance movement subjected to endless mutations in time and space, which then combines into a complex spiral movement of deafening energy. A wave of sound and dance in its purest state, Drumming was greeted with great enthusiasm when it was revived last season. The dancers from the Rosas Company and the musicians of Ictus, led by Georges-Elie Octors, get together again to carry us off into the whirlwind of life – live!
