In the hope of giving him a better life, a mother abandons her baby in an expensive car. But the car is stolen by crooks, who leave the child in the street - where a glazier (Chaplin) finds him. He adopts him and looks after him for a number of years. Five years later, the social services want to take the child, while his mother, who has now become rich, goes looking for him… This film, Charlie Chaplin's first full-length film, was a huge success in many countries. It was during a cabaret show that Chaplin discovered young Jackie ("the kid"), who was helping out in his father's acts. Following that encounter, the big-hearted tramp and the mischievous child would become legends of the cinema…
